Apple now has a new "Best Mac" page (found on Mac < Compare, Shop Mac < Shopping Guides, or https://www.apple.com/mac/best-mac/) on its website. The new page gives you some questions about your budget, what you need to do daily on the Mac, extra accessories (if any) that will be used with it, what you will use the Mac for, and whether you'll want portability, then gives a few matches based on your answers. I tried it out (my dad's 2019 iMac that I'm writing this on is getting old, and even though I could decide on my own which Mac was best, I wanted to test it out), and after putting in "Essentials" for what I will use the Mac for, "Video chatting" and "Multitasking across apps" for what I need to do daily, "Always in a fixed place, like my desk" for the portability question, "I'm not sure yet" for accessories, and "up to $1,500" for budget (of course, I'm not paying, so I just made that budget up), I got the base iMac as the "top choice", the base Mac mini as the "greater graphics" second choice, and the base MacBook Air as the "portable" third choice.

My take: forgive me for being the doomsday messenger, but this sounds a lot like the 1990s before Steve Jobs when Apple had to put up a poster outside Infinite Loop to help its own employees choose which Macintosh to get. Not as radical, but still.
