And not just a little boom. Oh, no. A 72-nominations record-size boom. An across-16-movies boom. Sure, FX, Max and Netflix packed even more TNT (93, 91 and 107 nominations worth of it respectively), and sure, part of it was them being generous in their choosing (Palm Royale, a comedy that only got 57% on Rotten Tomatoes, got 11 nominations, with two Outstanding Lead Actresses in a Comedy Series for Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig and an Outstanding Comedy Series some of them), but still: 72 nominations??? And back to the streamer talkin', every single broadcasting network plus Hulu, Prime Video and Disney+ had less nominations, so it's even more impressive (especially when you look at the 33% (that's a third!) increase from last year's 54). The awards ceremony for the Emmys will be broadcasted by ABC on September 15.
I won't list every single nomination here, but just to give you an idea, Lessons in Chemistry got ten nominations (including Apple TV+'s first Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series nomination), Hijack and Loot both got Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress respectively for their categories (Carpool Karaoke: The Series also got one nomination (this is the 7th time in a row that the series has been nominated this same nomination, so you shouldn't be surprised at this if you watched previous Emmys) for Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama, or Variety Series), Slow Horses got nine (including Outstanding Drama Series), The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy got two (including Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special, the first Apple Original to get honored this way), STEVE! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces and Girls State both got several (like Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series). Saving the best for last, The Morning Show got a whopping 16, with a whopping ten actors honored along with the show in general for Outstanding Drama Series.
