iPhone 15 flies its pale colors, Vision Pro flunks repairability score

The PIRG (US Public Interest Research Group) Education Fund has debuted a repairability scoring of 21 tech products (featuring laptops, phones, consoles, tablets (somehow not including the iPad), cameras, and the competing Vision Pro and Meta Quest 3) currently affected by Right-to-Repair laws in New York (the state, not just the city). The scoring looks at two main points discussed in the new laws: repair manual access and device parts access, and combining scores from either into a score out of 20 accompanied by a letter grade (there aren't any A+'s or F-'s in the rating system). Along with the rating, the PIRG talked about the problem of tech support (like Apple Support) not referring to the availability of self-service repair programs (they simply say the programs don't exist). Anyway, let's get into the scores!

First and worst, the Vision Pro completely flunks the rating system, getting an F or 0. Maybe if it was on the self-service repair program, it would score better (I hope it's going to be on the program soon!). In the middle is the M3 MacBook Pro, getting a score of 10/20 or a C (exactly in the middle!), with all of its score courtesy of the manual access category (unless the study was made before early March, this couldn't be true, because it was then that the M3 MacBook Pro became a part of the self-service repair program). ...And at the top, the iPhone 15 gets a perfect 20. Coincidence that the scores went so evenly up from 0 to 20! Anyway, where are the AirPods? Maybe it got a -1/F-, and I just haven't told you yet! Actually, if that's even possible, the AirPods are rated lower, just because they're not rated at all. There are some products that the study dismissed as "unfixable by design" and therefore didn't rate, and the AirPods are one of them. Whenever you refer to Apple to fix the earbuds, they simply refer you to a new pair, and once an employee was caught searching Google himself for how to fix them.
