If you're one of my first 7 readers, you might remember my October reporting on a new system that will update iPhones wirelessly when placed on top of while they're still in their boxes before selling and will look "a bit like a metal cubby for shoes", according to Mark Gurman and his latest Power On newsletter. It will start its rollout next month, with Apple intending to have it in every retail store in the US by the start of summer. If you caught my joke in the title, I put it there because the system is called "Presto". It was originally developed as a way to prevent software that's not the newest from coming with iPhones when bought, for example at that time when the required iOS 17.0.1 update for the setup process to work well was not installed on all iPhones shipped (they stayed on iOS 17.0) and people had to update manually. It will work by turning on an iPhone, updating it, and turning it back off, all wirelessly. Presto! Bye!
